Original Oil Painting, French Streetscape. Louis Dali (1905-2001) is a listed French artist famous for his techniques in capturing the true atmosphere of Paris in his street scenes. He was especially active in the 1940's and 1950's, and specialized in small street scenes in Paris. He has been awarded high honors in many exhibitions in Europe.

Dali was well represented in European and American galleries during his lifetime. His popularity as an easel painter was enhanced in the late 1970's when he was commissioned by the French government to paint his interpretation of the twelve sights of Paris. The collection was eventually used as the subject for a series of highly collectible Lamoge china plates.

Early in his career Louis Dali studied under the masterful eye of Maurice Utrillo, one of the most famous of the Paris street painters. Utrillo's influence is evident in many Dali compositions. Louis Dali paintings became popular in the United States in the 1950s when the W.T. Burger Company (New York) purchased his paintings for the American art market. Anonymous donation.

Original #6 Shaker Rocking Chair with Arms.  Mount Lebanon Shaker Village, ca. 1880. The Shakers at Mount Lebanon had a very successful chair manufacturing business. Shaker chairs were sold through department stores such as Marshall Fields & Co. and Shaker Village shops and catalog sales. This fine example of Shaker craftsmanship and design is representative of the chairs produced for adults during the fourth quarter of the 19th century. It retains its original finish with beautiful patina, an original Shaker woven cloth tape seat and back, as well as the Shakers’ trademark decal used to authenticate Shaker manufacture. Donated by Aileen and Robert Hamilton.

Original #3 Shaker Rocking Chair with Arms, and Lined Sewing Carrier. Mount Lebanon Shaker Village, ca. 1880 (chair), Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, ca. 1930 (carrier). This chair is another fine example of the Shakers’ successful chair manufacturing business. Meticulously re-seated by Robert W. Wilkins, this chair retains original finish and the Shakers’ trademark decal used to authenticate Shaker manufacture. The accompanying lined sewing carrier, complete with accouterments, is an example of the work of Sabbathday Lake’s Elder Delmer C. Wilson and the Sisters. These carriers were made for sale to summer tourists, in their store, and by mail order. Donated by Suzanne Courcier and Robert W. Wilkins.
